Q&A With Alex Fullterton
Describe your style
I wear something denim in almost every single one of my outfits (it’s usually jeans) and love simple pieces with a 1960s silhouette. I always consider the details… so even if I’m just wearing jeans and a jumper, I’ll make sure I add a belt, push up my sleeves to show off a contrasting t-shirt underneath or wear a flashy sock that will zhuj up even the most basic of wardrobe staples.
What are your favourite pieces in the collection and why?
I spotted the check print dress at the press day last year and fell in love with the details - it’s such a special piece and feels so right for warmer weather. I’m also a huge fan of waistcoats - I promise they’re making a comeback, whether you wear them over bare skin or layered over a fine t-shirt. This embroidered denim one looks so unusual. I’m also a huge fan of the printed puffers - they are a genius way to keep cosy when it’s still not warm enough for a shacket but you don’t want to look too winter-y.
What’s your top piece of style advice?
Try to define your style in three words (mine are Sixties, Denim and Tomboy) then always keep these words in mind when you shop and only make purchases that fit your key words. This way you’ll never end up buying things that don’t feel like ‘you’ or that ends up sitting around in your wardrobe unworn!
Top trends to look out for this season?
Mini skirts are having a major moment; sexy cutaway body-con silhouettes and sheer fabrics are back. Wearing one colour head to toe; plus platforms are set to be the shoe for Spring 2022.
What’s your go-to look?
When I can’t work out what to wear or want to look like I have everything together (even when I don’t!) I always revert to wearing a slouchy trouser suit with a plain t-shirt and chunky loafers. It makes me feel so slick and smart.
Any new style resolutions for 2022?
I’m planning on wearing any new pieces that I add to my wardrobe at least 30 times - the average amount of times garments are worn in France (in the UK it’s half that which is such a waste!) Shopping - and styling yourself - sustainably should be everyone’s goal for 2022.
Define your Oasis (your happy place)
Lying in a very hot bubble bath for a whole hour - without any interruptions - is my idea of heaven. Alternatively, lying on a beach… any sunny beach... with my eyes closed and just listening to the waves, distant chatter and seagulls would be bliss.
